How do I configure network services and groups?

The Zscaler firewall has 50 predefined services and an admin can configure up to 1024 additional custom services. You can add, modify or delete ports in all predefined services except ICMP_any, UDP_any, TCP_any and OTHER. You can also define network services groups.

Modifying Predefined Network Services

To modify the ports of a predefined network service:

  1. Go to Administration > Resources > Network Services.
  2. Point to a network service and click the Edit icon.
  1. You can change the TCP Source Ports , TCP Destination Ports, UDP Source Ports, and/or UDP Destination Ports accordingly.
  2. Click Save and activate the change.

Creating Custom Network Services

You can define custom network services to add to the Firewall, DNS and NAT policies. Additionally, you can define custom services that include custom ports for HTTP, HTTPS, DNS or FTP.

To add a custom network service:

  1. Go to Administration > Resources > Network Services.
  2. In the Services tab, click Add.
  3. Enter a Name for the application layer service that you want to control. It can include any character and spaces.
    Note that for the Definition field, the service displays Custom to indicate that this is an admin-defined service.
  4. For TCP Source Ports, TCP Destination Ports, UDP Source Ports, and/or UDP Destination Ports, enter the port number (example: 50) or port number range (Example: 1000-1050), if any, that is used by the network service.
  5. Optionally, enter additional notes or information. The description cannot exceed 10,240 characters.
  6. Click Save and activate the change.

Creating Network Services Groups

To create a network services group:

  1. Go to Administration > Resources > Network Services.
  2. In the Service Groups tab, click Add.
  3. Enter a Name for the network services group. It can include any character and spaces.
  4. Click the down arrow beside Services.
  5. Choose any number of custom and predefined services you want to include to the group.
  6. Optionally, enter additional notes or information. The description cannot exceed 10,240 characters.
  7. Click Save and activate the change.
